Proyecto Abasto is the Argentine Branch of
the Progetto Sur O.N.L.U.S
(a non-profit organization).
The objective of the Progetto Sur
and the Proyecto Abasto is
to provide lodging for visitors from all around the world, so
that they can not only enjoy Argentina as tourists, but also
experience the country in a far deeper sense, thus gaining an
understanding of its unique social, political, and cultural
aspects.
---- We believe
that the only way to understand a culture is to actually participate
in it – to see with your own eyes how the people live day
in and day out. We invite travelers to really get to know what
life is like in our country, so different from their own, so that
they can realistically compare and contrast these differences.
Perhaps when all is said and done, we will all come to the conclusion
that in spite of all of the historic and cultural differences
we are really quite similar, and we will each be able to extend
our arms in a mutual embrace, each accepting and respecting the
other...
Our ¨House¨, is located in an area also called ¨The
Abasto¨, one of Buenos Aires’ most traditional neighborhoods.
It is the historic home of the Tango, and is where one of Argentina’s
most illustrious artists, the great Carlos Gardel, lived and
sang. It is also very conveniently located for getting around
town, given that most of the major points of interest are
all easily reached, including: Palermo, Retiro, San Telmo,
La Boca, etc. A subway station is only 20 meters from the
house’s main
entrance, and numerous bus lines also pass nearby, further providing
access to all parts of the city.
The house
offers both individual and shared rooms, washing facilities,
a central patio, and a large terrace with tables and chairs
and an outdoor BBQ where you can sample some of Argentina’s
world famous beef. There is also a shared kitchen, where our
guests can either cook for themselves or order typical argentine
and international dishes.
